As the end of 2023 was approaching, I took some time to think about what I wanted this new year to look like and what I really wanted to focus on and accomplish for this new chapter in life. Since talks of vision boards go viral this time of year, and in honor of National Vision Board Day, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and create one for myself. I also thought it might be helpful to share my vision board with you. Perhaps, this might inspire you to create your own, or give you some ideas on how to tweak or even create your own this year. It’s definitely not too late!
Something I started doing about 3 years ago, and have continued to do ever since, is to declare a word or phrase for the year. I found that by doing this, it helped me make sure that the choices I was making were aligning with the goals I had set. Back in 2021, when I started on my fitness journey, and wanted to stay consistent, the word I chose for the year was Discipline. In 2022, when my parents died, I chose the word Faith to get me through the year and in 2023 my phrase for the year was to just Take it slow. For this new year of possibilities, the words I’ve chosen to guide me are Thoughtful and Intentional. These words kept coming up for me as I thought about what I wanted to accomplish both personally and professionally.
thought·ful: showing careful consideration or attention.
in·ten·tion·al: done on purpose; deliberate.
With my words for the year locked in. I thought about what areas in my life I wanted to focus on and be more thoughtful and intentional in. I chose 4 areas of my life to focus on. Now, you can choose to focus on just one or two, or even ten. It’s totally up to you! Your life, your vision. For me, I chose to focus on Faith, Family, Business, and my Health. These are the areas in my life I want to be more thoughtful and intentional in. Once I had declared the areas I wanted to focus on, I worked on creating my vision of what I want to create around these areas using pictures and words, phrases, and even scripture.
Creating your own vision board is a great way to visualize the success you are trying to create for your life. Keep it somewhere you can view it regularly and use it to check in on your progress throughout the year. You can make a physical one or a digital one like I did. Canva is a great website that has tons of templates that you can use to create your own vision board. You can then set it as your desktop wallpaper or your phone home screen. It’s not too late to create your vision for the new year. So think about your goals, and go make the happen!
